João Pedro Marques is an artist from Lisbon, Portugal. Even though he started his artistic journey with symbolism and surrealism, yet over the years, he shifted to abstract expressionism and informal painting. In recent years, João's painting style turned more visceral and dreamlike. He uses the psycological mechanisms of Projection and Perception during the creative stages. He keeps the surrealistic and symbolic influences. Usually he uses 2 stages during the creation process.
1st stage: Chaos and natural flow. American expressionists call it “Action Painting”. It is the intuitive stage.
2nd stage: All the Chaos of first stage is shaped and used in a rational way. Surrealistic influences are employed in this stage to create narratives and meanings. Objects and more defined shapes appear. He is a proponent of Neutralist movement in art.
